Quran Gate in Shiraz
Introduction
In the entrance of Allah-O-Akbar Gorge in the city of Shiraz, there exists a gate that is commonly called Quran Gate of Shiraz. This gate got its name from the Quran that was once put on top of it.
The gate was built under the command of Adud ad-Dawlah Deylami. It sustained damages over time but was rebuilt during the reign of Karim Khan Zand. Moreover, a Quran known as Hefdah-Man was placed in the small chamber above it.
Due to the imprudence of the municipality of Shiraz, the gate was ruined in 1316 SH under the command of Reza Khan; and the Quran on top of it was transferred to Pars Museum. However, the gate was rebuilt once again in the year 1328 SH by one of the famous merchants of Shiraz named Hosein Igar.
This Gate is located in the northeast of Shiraz in Allah-O-Akbar Gorge between Chehel Maqam and Baba Kouhi mountains. It is in fact in the exit of Shiraz to Marvdasht (Takht-e Jamshid, Pasargadae, Naqsh-e Rustam, the ancient city of Istakhr).
